When I decided to return to Türkiye in 1983, I was dreaming of an 8-meter boat.

I made that dream come true and purchased an 8-meter boat. There was so much to be done that I began by completing the missing parts of my boat. Shortly afterward, everything was ready. As every sailor says before setting sail, I said, “Vira Bismillah!”—that is, casting off the lines and setting sail in the name of God.

One July morning, I sailed toward Büyükada and anchored along its hillsides. As I looked around, I was struck by the grandeur of the massive yachts surrounding me. In that moment, I wanted to pull myself together and head back, but I couldn’t avoid battling the waves created by those giant vessels passing by.

I decided to sell my boat and order a 12-meter twin-engine vessel. We launched the boat in 1985, but its speed could not exceed 6 knots. The mechanic who built the engines disappeared! From then on, I began to personally take care of everything related to the boat. That is how I began boatbuilding—indirectly, but decisively.

Over the years, I built boats designed to last for many years and tested them under challenging conditions. I also attended trade fairs to closely follow the technical and schematic aspects of the industry.

In 2022, I built a 32-meter yacht intended for sale. In the following years, as appreciation grew and demand increased, I went on to build many more boats. All yachts built by me have been constructed in accordance with the international standards of Italian RINA Class Lloyd and British MCA Charter Class Lloyd, and have been duly certified by these organizations.

Today, we have launched our mega yacht “Deep Story,” which is 45 meters in length and features a helicopter landing pad.

This journey began with a desire to create something better for myself, and today it continues with the same passion—now dedicated to creating something better for you—through Orkun Yachting under the umbrella of Orkun Group, for more than 10 years.
